“And when you fast, do not look gloomy
like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be
seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when
you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be
seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in
secret will reward you."
I have learned through this teaching
that fasting actually can be a super important part in a relationship with God.
I used to think the opposite; that fasting was something of Biblical times that
wouldn’t actually provide results nowadays. However, just hearing about all of
the miraculous things that God can and has done through fasting in the present
times makes me want to try fasting. The thing is that I probably wouldn’t do a food
fast because I don’t think that would have a huge impact on my relationship
with God, yet a technology fast would. I spend so much of my time watching TV, being
on my phone, etc., and that is valuable time that I could be spending in
communion with God. I am really hoping that in the near future I would try a
fast so that I would get to spend that extra time with God and see how he works
in my life.
