Self-Image

Everyone has those days where they look in the mirror and do not like what they see. For some that may be everyday. It is very hard to love they way you look in today's society, which is constantly trying to define what is "beautiful." We need to stop paying attention to the world's standards and turn our minds to what God sees as beautiful. It has nothing to do with appearance, my friends. When your life ends the amount of fat you have on your body is going to be of no importance. God calls us to take care of our bodies because they are His

We are all made in the image of the great living God! All the insecurities you have, all the imperfections you see in yourself everyday; God sees them as beautiful. Hold onto that. You are gorgeous!

Self Image

Self-image, negative or positive, can have a big effect on all of us. Negative self-image can make you feel self-conscious causing you to feel afraid to do things you can do.  It is really hard for you to show off your talents or feel special in what you can do if you feel afraid of what others are thinking about you.  Sometimes seeing other people showing off their talents, might make that person afraid that they aren't as good as that person so they should not even try.  People with a negative self-image can sometime misinterpret the abilities of people around them.

Negative self-image is something that does not easily go away, it can stay with a person for a life time.  To fight against negative self-image takes prayer, reliance on God, and conscious effort.

Too much of a positive self-image causes people to be egotistical, which can cause them to be proud and boastful.  They need prayer and reliance on God to obtain a correct self-view.

"When you look at yourself what do you see?"

                                            Self image

When I normally look at myself I hate what I see. I always have to find something wrong and I tear myself apart from it. I know I am not the only one who struggles with this. Our world has an image in their head, and if we don't look just like that, we think of ourselves as unworthy.  I know God made me too look just like myself for a reason, I was made in his image, and I have a reason. Even though I see myself as unworthy sometimes or I think I'll never be good enough. We all struggle with that and I don't think society has helped with that at all. Our world is a crazy place now built with "picture" perfect thing in out\r heads. You are not the only who to struggles. We all struggle, but God loves every single one of us for who we are, not the picture we have in our head of what we should look like. Sometimes I feel like every time I look at myself in a bad way I'm sinning, Because I know deep down inside I was made perfect by my Creator, but have I changed that because of the way I tear myself down?  No you haven't destroyed that, but God doesn't want us to sit here and wish we were other people. He wants us to be confident with ourselves and love who we are. It's not all about what we look like, yes we always go to "looks" first, but its also about what you feel about yourself. If you feel good about yourself you won't be so down about how you look. Look at yourself differently now, don't look at yourself with fear of who you are, and don't tear yourself down by the way you look. Look at yourself with confidence, love yourself for you are and because God made you perfect in His eyes.

what we see vs. What God created

How many times do you look in the mirror and not like what you see? Maybe you are getting ready for a big fancy event, feeling so pretty and then you look in the mirror and think "well then... that's not what I was expecting to see." and you are filled with overwhelming disappointment. And lets be honest, it takes a while to get out of the funk that we've put ourselves in. It can feel like we can never get out of this dark place because of how long we have been in it. Maybe for some, you have looked at yourself negatively for such a long time, you have forgotten what it is like to love you in your own skin. It is a struggle that we all deal with at some point to some extent, some more than others. Since we all have this problem, how can we ever get out? Am I going to get out of hating what I see in the mirror? Is there a fix for this self hatred?
Yes. There is definitely an answer to all of this! You just have to look in the right place! If we look in the book of Genesis, It says So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.(1:27) Can you even imagine that you were created to look like a perfect God that invented beauty itself? Do you trust that his standards of beauty are better than yours? He designed the very hairs on your head, and he designed how you feel, and has such a plan for your life.
When we look at ourselves with self hatred, or disappointment, it is so destructive to our minds, and Satan can use that to manipulate our thoughts to something God doesn't want for you!
   You were beautifully designed,
    You are desirable,
    and you are cherished,
no matter what you think about yourself!

Self Image: My View

I think that self-image is an important view of how you see yourself and how you want the world to see you. I think you have to trust in yourself that you are who you are and you can`t change that about yourself. There are so many people around you that love you for you. You parents, your best friend, your grandparents, your teachers, your cousins, your aunts, your uncles, your classmates, and God. There are mirrors in this world for a reason, God put a mirror in your room for a reason. Not to lower your self-esteem, not to lower your self-confidence, but to trust yourself in how you look. My first class assignment on self-image was to do a study on Eve, form the Bible. My teacher gave us a sheet of paper that had questions to answer. I think that the hardest question to answer was,"Do you think Eve is a role model?" There are so many ways to answer that question. You can say yes and you can say no both with good reason. To answer that I said both. Yes, I do think Eve is a role model because she shows us that we have to love one another and we have to love what God gave us. We should love God`s creations because he made them for us. Eve shows us how we can help one another and she shows us how to obey. She did make a sin but I think that that was a part of God`s plan. Cause I can not imagine a world where there would be no sin and everyone would be perfect in every way. That just doesn't seem right. And then I think that Eve is also a bad role model because she shows us how we can run and hide from God and not confess to our mistakes. But we should be doing exactly the opposite. We should be confessing our mistakes and sins and not hiding from God or one another. Now, you are probably wondering how this connects to self-image. But it really does. Your self-image is based off of your actions and based off of your characteristics. Your self-image is created by you and you alone. You create your own self-images by the people who admire or look up to. When you think to yourself, "I want to look like her," you eventually start turning your self in that direction, and it happens over and over again because every time you look at a famous person or you see someone looking nice down the street, your gonna try your hardest to do what you can to look like that. And it happens to everyone, it just happens, you can`t really stop yourself from doing it. Famous people like Taylor Swift or Kelly Clarkson or Brad Pitt or Channing Tatum, they are all going to do it to.... They are going to do it to one another. And that`s just how life works. We wish we could look like one another but in reality, YOU HAVE TO BE YOU! You have to look and think like you. You have to act like you. You have to accept you. I have recently learned that because there is a guy at my school who likes me for me, because I am being myself. When I learned about him liking me, I didn't want to change how I was acting or my looks or my personality because someone likes me just the way I am.

So, to sum it all up, I think that you should look in the mirror every morning and ask yourself "How do I want to look?" Because being you is important and people care about you just the way you are. So don`t change. Take my advice or leave it.... It`s all up to you.

A lot of women don't think of themselves as "worthy" or "important", but more as "unimportant" and "not good enough." Confidence and self esteem are something a lot of young women lack in today's time. According to society, women need to be this, that, and do those things to be considered beautiful. Such as being a certain weight, looking a certain way, participating in certain activities, and acting in a certain manor. If you don't do these things you're not considered beautiful, but rather pushed aside and are ....

But in Romans 12:2, God says "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." Do not focus on what the world thinks of you, but rather on what God thinks of you, and your heavenly rewards rather than your worldly desires. In God's eyes, you are worth more than you could ever imagine.

What are We Even Worth?

The idea of self image is really very frustrating for some people: all of the thoughts, ideas, images running through our minds of what we think we are, what we think people think we are, what other people think of us or our looks, what we may even believe people think of us, and many more.

We always question our worth.

I’m never going to be good enough for anyone. I’m not pretty or good-looking. I don’t feel wanted at all. I'm completely useless. I'm such a disappointment. I'm always alone. People must hate me.

It isn’t true. None of this is true. Don't listen to the lies that Satan, or even other people, is telling you. You are deeply, truly loved. You are a wonderful person. God created you perfect just the way you are and does not want to see you hurt. He never planned for you or anyone to hurt. He loves you so much.

Matthew 10:31 – “So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

You have worth. You have value. You’re worth more than many sparrows! It says that in the Bible! Yes, this is a weird verse. I know that. At first glance, you may think God is comparing us to sparrows. Actually, He’s talking about how much we are worth. Back then, animals were a sign of wealth. Many sparrows equals a lot of value. You’re worth more than the large value that many sparrows gives a rich person. We all are very valuable to God, who created us, who chose us to come into existence. He has us all around for a reason.

We tend to believe that our worth is not very much. God loves us so much. He considers us worth so much more than we think we are worth, so we have nothing to worry about.

So, remember every single day, for the rest of your life, you are good enough. You are loved. You are not useless. You are not disappointing. You are not alone. You are wanted. You are important. You are wonderful.

Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

God knew us from the very beginning. He has plans for each and every one of us. Each of His plans for us are unique and wonderful in their own way and all glorify God. Be at peace knowing He loves you, and there is a reason for every situation that comes your way. Who knows how many bullets He takes for us every single day of our lives out of love?

A lot of the time we look in the mirror and don’t like what we see, this is, most of the time, a daily struggle for me. We tend to see flaws that we need or want to fix instead of appreciating what we already have; this is an issue we have due to human nature. As humans, we take everything for granted and and have high expectations and hopes in the things of this world; technology is one of the best examples. We put so much trust in gadgets that store nearly our whole lives; we trust that they will keep all of our info stored. Why can't we trust God the way we trust computers? Why can't we tell God everything that goes on in our lives? God is way more reliable then that save button on the top of your Word doc.
We rather take time engaging in things of this world than engaging in Him. We have become enlightened and fascinated by the ways of this world. Heaven is our home and not earth, yet we build kingdoms on earth and worship them instead of worshiping and giving prayers to our heavenly Father. We don't find ourselves beautiful because we are constantly lied to by Satan and this world that we should look like this or look like that. Its all a scam; STOP finding flaws and look to God, your creator. He is perfect in every way and you were created by Him.You are perfect to him. The only reason we point out flaws is because we are not made perfect in any way, shape or form but when we build our kingdom in God, and thank him daily for our flaws, we become beautiful, inside and out we love ourselves. There is no such thing as a perfection except for God; we are children of the greatest king to ever live.We are worth so much, bought with the highest price, payed with blood; His blood, He DIED for Us. The king died for us! Praise Him, for He is the reason we are alive today.

For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful
I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Psalm 139:13-15
Self-image is an idea that a lot of girls struggle with. We are constantly being told what “beautiful” is and how we do not fit the world’s standards. This puts a lot of pressure on young women to try and reach unattainable goals whether it be a pencil thin waist or flawless skin, the fact is that none of that matters. The only thing that matters is what God thinks of us, and He made us perfect the way we are. He knew exactly who we were going to be even before we were born. He put so much thought into designing our beings and He loves us more than we could ever imagine regardless of what we may look like.
I have loved you, so I continue you to show you my constant love. – Jeremiah 31:3

God loves us no matter what. God’s acceptance is the only thing we need, and we have that. Therefore it shouldn’t matter what we look like for God doesn’t look at the outward appearance, He looks at the heart.
